Basic Keelboat - US Sailing Course 101

Basic Keelboat is taught by US Sailing-certified instructors at Sailors World Marina on Lake Minnetonka. Qualified graduates will become charter certified for day sailing on 22-27' keelboats.

This is a four-session, 12-hour course taught by Sailors World Inc. instructors certified by the US Sailing Association. Classes meet evenings or weekends for three-hour sessions. Classes are limited to three students. This creates a small seminar environment which provides for great skipper and crew training. Each session starts with a briefing on the day’s lesson and getting underway and ends with docking and securing the boat.

Each student will receive the book and video/DVD, Sailing Fundamentals, Federal Regulations, Log Book and Pre-Test.

Session 1: Outboard Engine, Getting Underway, Tacking, Points of Sail, Boat Balance, Trim, Docking, Securing the Boat

Session 2: Review, Tacking & Jibing, Sail Trim, Helming

Session 3: Review, Controlling Angle of Heel, Heaving to, Reefing

Session 4: Review, Crew Overboard Drill, Solo Checkout, Written Exam
